The frigid weather and blustery winds on a dreary Saturday in November didn’t discourage thousands of people from
queuing up for The University of Kansas Hospital’s annual Drive Thru to Fight the Flu event. Cars and trucks were lined up
for blocks as students and faculty from the KU School of Nursing and nurses from KU Hospital administered nearly 3,600
flu shots.
“Giving that many shots in one day is a valuable learning experience for our nursing students,” said Karen Tarnow, RN, PhD,
Skills Lab director at the School of Nursing. “It’s fantastic that they can get this great training and, at the same time, provide
an enormous service to our community.”
